Short-term fixes

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has proposed an innovative approach to managing current lanes and upgrade interchanges in the short term.

In July, 2016, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced two major short-term investments in the I-270 corridor:

  • An additional $100 million in funding for his “I-270 Innovative Congestion Management Project” to identify new ways to improve travel times in the corridor, leveraging creative new ideas from the private sector to more efficiently utilize the highway facility we have now; and
  • A commitment of $129.6 million for the Watkins Mill Interchange, a top-priority capital project to improve access and support significant job growth in the Gaithersburg area of the I-270 corridor.

Together, these investments are likely to have a positive impact and Fix270Now supports them both as short-term remedies, while also calling for long-term investments to provide the new road and transit capacity we need to ease congestion dramatically for years to come.
